PRO LABORE DEI MALAWI

“We shall serve…” An affirmative phrase! It is a phrase that is without doubt and wavering. The phrase that resonates around Pro Labore Dei Malawi. Indeed also in the members both in word and in deed. It brings to mind a picture of an army parade with the commander in chief looking on. The commander calls them to be at attention and starts off with the drill. In Pro Labore Dei, our commander in chief, who is God, looks on as our commander andwell able leader, Rev. Sister Stella Maris, starts off to give the drill.

“What is our Motto!” and we would reply “We shall serve.” She would continue, “In the highway and the by-ways, in the streets and the homes, in the slums and the towns” and the response would be “We shall serve!” Still she would say, “In all circumstances, plenty or lack, to all peoples, sick and abandoned, disabled and despairing, in discomfort and displeasure!” then the response would be a hearty three cheer of “We shall serve! We shall serve! We shall serve!”

In response to the divine call from God and with its motto “We shall serve!” at heart, Pro Labore Dei made its way, as with the call of God to Abraham, to the central African nation, commonly known as “The warm heart of Africa”, Malawi. By God’s grace, it managed to settle in the hilly, semi-rural area of Machinjiri in Blantyre city. It was only grace that made the founding Missionary, Fidelia, to meet with the first members who freely, willingly and sacrificially offered and did their best to help to set up, establish and later to run the organization with zeal and sacrifice. Truly, one of the many wonders only attributed to the God of Pro Labore Dei.

In the two years of existence, Pro Labore Dei Malawi has grown in leaps and bounds and has gained its roots as a servant heeding to the call of our Master and Lord, Jesus Christ,

We have been able to provide accommodation with full provisions to seven children in the mission house, we have registered and have regular visits to home based clients who include the disabled, the aged and the abandoned. We have in the recent past been able to train our clients in sewing and are currently in the initial stages of training them to keep chicken for sale. Our feeding programme is growing steadily in the streets of Limbe and Blantyre towns.

Our members have embraced the Pro Labore Dei call and give sacrificially to enhance the call of God within the region. It is not a rare event to see them coming with financial and material resources to help the projects and activities of the branch.

Spurred on by the coordinator and the committee that includes a secretary and treasurer, our team of equals makes its way into the abandoned homes and meet with the hopeless men and women to quench its inner thirst of helping and making the lives of the less fortunate better. The determination can only be  equaled to one of people eradicating a disease called poverty even to the last drop of sweat and blood.

Members meetings are not just a formality but bear fruit with new ideas and variations being made to existing ones all with the aim of making destitution a thing of the past. We join hands in prayer for the needy and the weak at heart that they may be strengthened and we set out to counsel them and ensure they make it in this God given blessed life.

We don’t have no-go zones neither do we have “special cases”. With the love of Christ, we reach out to all the clients as one and as our own. We make them smile and laugh because we are all one family in Christ.
